Last night, Rajon Rondo stepped up BIG to close out the Second Round of the Playoffs. With Pierce fouled out and the Celtics struggling to score, Rondo went on a personal 9-0 run to put the game and series away for the Celtics.

Rajon Rondo comes up BIG for the Celtics, Game 7 vs 76ers.

The 2nd Round of the NBA Playoffs officially came to an end earlier today when the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in a hard-fought 7-game series. How good were my predictions, pretty darn good.. (2nd Round Predictions).

You’ve got to congratulate the Grizzlies on a fantastic year, Conley and Gasol’s development along with Z-Bo’s dominance have the future looking bright as ever and that’s exciting!

The semi-finals also begin today with the Chicago bulls hosting the surging Miami Heat.

Here are my predictions! (Click Image to Full Screen)

Swish's NBA Playoff Predictions of the Semi-Finals

Upsets, Getting Real..

Dallas Mavericks vs Oklahoma City ThunderThunder are just quicker and more athletic and if I’ve learnt anything about the Mavericks over the last 5 years. . . they can’t quite keep up with athletic teams.. I expect Dirk Nowitzki to be out-of-phase while facing a variety of long athletic Ibaka (Shot-blaka) arms and who in the world is going to stop Russell Westbrook from penetrating the Maverick Defense.. However, Mavs do own home-court advantage and have much more experience than OKC.. It’ll be interesting, slow vs fast, poised vs reckless, old vs young..

Chicago Bulls vs Miami Heat – This series is going to be WILD! The Heat are scorching hot but Chicago swept the season series 3-0.. But, if LeBron James and Dwyane Wade keep up their recent assault, I just can’t see Derrick Rose and co. stopping them.. I should also note that I am really looking forward to watching poor old Mike Bibby break an ankle. . Series is gonna be defensively oriented, expect low scoring games but hard fought and exciting!

Starts TONIGHT!

Happy Playoff-ing = Company + Drinks + HD TV!

Phil Jackson: Unbreakable Legacy

Click and Follow the NBA Swish on FACEBOOK and on TWITTER

On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the 2011 Playoffs. After winning 2 NBA championships in their most recent 3 NBA Finals appearances, this year, the Lakers seemed uninterested, lethargic and lacking an edge.

But this blog just isn’t about the Lakers..

It’s about Phil Jackson.

The winning-est coach in NBA history, 11 NBA Championships in 13 Finals appearances.

He coached two of the greatest players of all-time in Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, guiding them to 6 and 5 championship rings respectively. Other notable players, Hall of Famers Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman and future Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal all enjoyed wide success with Jackson.

Although he did not develop it, Jackson evolved and perfected the Triangle Offense. His style helped lead the 1995-96 Bulls team to a 72-10 record, which is the only team to ever win 70+ games in a season.

Lucky Guy! Don’t you think?

Jackson won in his first 9 championships in three-peats, first 3 with MJ and co., then another 3 in MJ’s return and 3 more with Shaq and Kobe. . . and after winning 2 in a row, Jackson had rightfully returned for the perfect ending, the one we all dream of, for one last season, one last run, for one last three-peat, one last title. . .

Instead, the Lakers were swept by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd-round of the Playoffs, being blown out by 30 in the elimination game.

And just when you thought matters could not get any worse. . .

Two Lakers players were ejected for flagrant plays and the Lakers had lost.

The man we all believed to be one of the luckiest, smartest and illustrious coaches in the world was disgraced, humiliated and let down, seemingly leaving the courts an apparent loser.

Despite this unfortunate ending, Jackson smiled, joked and embraced his own exit from the game of basketball at his press conference. Evidently thankful for his career, its opportunities and his unfathomable success during his 20 year run. . .

. . . then with one final smiling remark, Jackson stood, thanked the media and left the basketball world an apparent indisputable winner.

Playa’s of the Year!

One of the most highly anticipated NBA regular seasons has come to end, but the excitement is just beginning! With the NBA Playoffs set to begin this Saturday! But first, I’ve gotta hand out my Season’s Awards.

Most Valuable Player!

Derrick Rose

. . . . . enough said, just watch!!  MVP! MVP! MVP!

Alright, but I can’t go on without mentioning that the Chicago Bulls won 62 games this season and stole the best league record from the San Antonio Spurs on the LAST DAY of the regular season.

And obviously, D-Rose has been unconscious and as consistent as Day n’ Night..

Rookie of the Year!

This next guy is pretty incredible as well, I’m sure you’ve heard his name before…

Blake ‘the Earthquake’ Griffin

This guy’s had so many highlights, the NBA should considering re-naming the Top 10 Plays after him!

Defensive Player of the Year!

Dwight Howard

He’s like his own SWAT team, as in he will swat that *beep*outta here.. (clever, I know..)

No seriously, a basketball looks like your daily orange in this guy’s hands.

Sixth Man!

James Harden

yeah ever since the Thunder traded away Jeff Green, Harden has become the most consistent spark off the bench! Strong Finish!

(Alot of ppl may pick Lamar Odom, but the guy’s stats are inflated because he was a starter for the first 2 months of the season… real bench numbers arn’t that impressive)

Most Improved Player!

Papa pa pa paaa I’m Lovin’ it!

Kevin Love

Fantastic personal achievement this season.. and an incredible 30-30 night!

… just hope your cooties are contagious.. your teammates need it.

Coach of the Year!

Tom Thibodeau

No LeBron James? No Dwayne Wade? No Problem.. the Tom Thibodeau, Derrick Rose tandem is the best in the league!

First time Head-coach has shocked us all with his ability to earn his player’s loyalty and dedication! ..

Playoffs a different story, we’ll have to wait and see..

Are the LA Lakers Just Bored?

Click and Follow the NBA Swish on FACEBOOK and on TWITTER

Kobe Bryant (right) whistling away on the bench

Ever since the All-Star break, the Los Angeles Lakers had been one of the best teams in the league.. right up there with the OKC Thunder and the Chicago Bulls. They began the second half of the season with a 17-1 record and looked poised to beat out the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the league.

And there I sat thinking:
. . . here comes another Laker Championship. . .

but in the blink of an eye, LA has collapsed.

After failing to box out on the final possession of a missed free throw vs the Nuggets and a heart breaking mishandle by Kobe Bryant vs the Jazz.. the Lakers have now lost 5 in a row (first time since acquiring Pau Gasol).

So are the Lakers just bored? or is this season’s inconsistent play pointing towards a failed Championship three-peat?

I really think its a bit of both. LA doesn’t look like a finals-lock as they had in their previous 3 years. Derek Fisher is even older and struggles to stop the penetration opposing guards and Ron Artest is a mood-swing on offense, because you just never know what your going to get. While the Mavericks have gotten bigger and the Thunder are bigger and quicker (Lethal).

But yes, the Lakers do look bored and just about ready to start competing for the title. They say ‘good habits are developed overtime’ and these are just not good habits. We saw the Lakers flick the switch after the all-star break and win 17 of 18..

Can they flick the switch twice in one season? Only time will tell..
