Last night, Rajon Rondo stepped up BIG to close out the Second Round of the Playoffs. With Pierce fouled out and the Celtics struggling to score, Rondo went on a personal 9-0 run to put the game and series away for the Celtics.

Rajon Rondo comes up BIG for the Celtics, Game 7 vs 76ers.

Scamz's First Round Winners, NBA Playoffs 2012

Scamz’s Notes:

“Not really sure how Orlando and Indiana is gonna play out…that one was just a wild guess”

Here are Swish’s Predictions:

Swish's First Round Winners, NBA Playoffs 2012

Swish’s Notes:
“No, its not a glitch.. I have the Mavericks taking out the Oklahoma City Thunder in 7. The Mavericks are underrated this year, and although OKC is my second favorite to win it all, I can’t stand ideally by.. wait, I WILL NOT stand ideally by and not give the defending Champs a shot out of the first round!”

D’Antoni or Melo, Take Your Pick

70 games since the New York Knicks traded half their roster to acquire Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets, it has become apparent that the D’Antoni-Carmelo Experiment does not produce results.

The Problem:

The Knicks who were 28-26 last season prior to the Carmelo Trade have gone 32-38 since. And when we consider the ‘Melo-less 7-1 record the team posted during Jeremy Lin’s explosive ‘arrival’ to fame, where does that leave us.. I’ll let u do the math on that one.

It’s not just Carmelo’s fault, Mike D’Antoni (head coach) has not made enough adjustments to take advantage of the talented players he has acquired. My issue here is that, the Knicks are 1-dimensional, they make no adjustments offensively or defensively depending on who their match ups are. And although, D’Antoni’s free flow offense keeps many players very happy statistically, the only time it has ever produced results was under a future hall of fame floor general PG Steve Nash.

The Solution:

One or the other must go, the trade deadline is Thursday, the experiment has failed. Either D’Antoni’s despicable reign as head coach must end, or move the all star talent who demands the ball in his hands and restricts a free-flow offense. The Knicks can upgrade all positions by trading Melo, but this team is just too talented and too deep to be 6 games under .500 this season.

My Solution:

Bye-bye D’Antoni… You had your chance, you have all the talent and you’ve produced little to nothing. A talent like Carmelo will always be more valuable than a stubborn coach.

Who’s Best ‘Power Forward’ in the League?

Its like picking between two of your favorite donuts, flavors of ice cream or chocolate desserts, both are incredibly good, but depending on how your feeling that day, you may sway toward one or the other. Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers) or Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves)??

Blake Griffin (Left) and Kevin Love (Right)

But for the sake of argument, here are 5 categories of assessment to bring this long debated Chuck vs Shaq discussion to an end, one of many between the two.

I think the only thing we can all agree on, is that the days of a Tim Duncan, back to the basket-type Power Forward (PF) are seemingly over. The games uptempo style has brought in a new dimension to the PF’s game and these are two of the more exciting and dominant players in that category.

Team Record:

Blake’s Clippers have a 22-14 record, while Kevin’s T-wolves are just above the .500 mark at 20-19. Although the Clippers have the irreplaceable, playoff tested CP3 (Chris Paul) on their team, you cannot discount that the best PF in the league better be helping his team to more wins.

Blake Griffin

Statistics:

Love leads Blake in 4 of 7 crucial categories (FT%, 3PM, REB, PTS), while Griffin has an edge in (FG% and AST) and both are just pitiful when it comes to blocks.. so we wont mention that any further.

Kevin Love

Games Played vs Each other:

Although, two of these games were decided by 3 points or less, the easy advantage goes to winner of all 3 meetings, the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kevin Love

Potential:

The high-flying extremely athletic big man, Blake Griffin earns an easy advantage here. Still learning the game, Griffin has been playing on pure athleticism more than basketball knowledge. When the days of development pass, he will be unstoppable.

Blake Griffin

In-the-Clutch:

He delivered 2 clutch fourth quarter baskets last night and sunk the game winning 3-pointer in the first meeting between these teams. Kevin Love has asserted himself as the go-to player for the Timberwolves.

Kevin Love

So if you tally up the scores………

Kevin Love is the best PF in the league today.. but, Tomorrow is a whole new day with a whole new set of possibilities.

NBA Returns Christmas Day

The NBA Owners and Players have reached a tentative agreement on a 10 year Collective Bargaining Agreement! Season is set to begin December 25th! Joy to the (basketball) World

After talks broke down mid-November, the Players Association had filed for decertification, and 2 anti-trust law suits against the NBA and its owners. Things were just not looking so bright for an NBA 2011-12 Season.

Today, there is new hope! After secretly meeting earlier this week to try to save the season, NBA players and owners met Friday for 15 hours and have come out the other side with a deal (tentative).

What makes this deal tentative?

  • Drug testing, Draft age and such ‘B-list’ issues have not been agreed on, but sides agree, these issues will not block a deal
  • Players Union must be Reformed
  • Owners and players must vote on the final revision of the CBA

What about the Deal?

  • BRI (Basketball Related Income) is slightly higher than 50/50 in favor of the players, (last CBA players had 57% of BRI earnings)
  • New strongly enforced luxury taxations will prevent big market teams from stockpiling talent. (unknown limits)
  • Each team has a 4-year Mid-Level Exception (yearly)
  • Sign and Trade is still available (for only 3 years??)

Training camp will be set for December 9th, should this deal pass.

Finally, the deal is a 10 year deal with a 6-year opt out clause. –> So we’ll probably do this again in 6 years.. BUT…

…after all, all that really matters, is that the NBA is BACK!
